Some reflections from recruiter Matt Anderson on his visit to NSU

I’m excited to be out on my first trip of the season for The Graduate School and taking this initial excursion with Evan Nelson, our recruitment specialist.

Our first stop was Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD. I am an alumnus of NSU, and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in painting. Driving through town and visiting campus brought back so many great memories. Upon arriving on campus we received a great response from the friendly NSU staff and had the wonderful opportunity to talk with several interested students at our info table in the Student Center.

The highlight of my day was visiting the NSU Art Department, my old stomping grounds. I met with Professor Sara Christensen-Blair, a new faculty member in the Art Department and alumna of UND. Sara introduced me to a very talented student interested in UND’s Master in Fine Art program. I also met with a former instructor of mine, Professor Peter Kilian. After reminiscing, Professor Kilian introduced me to his class and allowed Evan and I to chat with his students about UND’s Master of Fine Arts program. The students were very engaged in the discussion and had excellent questions about what it is to be a graduate student.

Overall, I want to thank Northern State University for allowing us to visit their beautiful campus and talk with their amazing students. I hope to be back soon.
