This week I met with Drs. Albert Bickford and John Clifton regarding our Graduate Program in Linquistics.  I am pleased to report that one of UND’s most successful collaborations continues to thrive; a collaborative graduate degree program between SIL International and the University of North Dakota.    For 59 years, SIL faculty have descended on the UND campus to provide courses leading toward a Master’s of Arts in Linguistics.  The partnership has expanded to include an undergraduate minor and a newly approved Graduate Certificate in Community-Based Literacy as Applied-Linguistics (coming to UND in Summer 2011).

Here are a few highlights of 59th year of the SIL-UND summer partnership:

  • 124 students were enrolled in the program
    • 46 Undergraduate Students
    • 43 Non-Degree Graduate Students
    • 35 M.A. students
    • 5 M.A. degrees will be awarded at Summer Commencement.  Congratulations to David A. Cross, Gretta M. Owen, April E. Sachs, Isaac C. Souza, and Shirley D. Souza.

Next summer we will celebrate our 60th year with SIL and I am excited about the future.
