leave a comment »

The University of North Dakota’s Graduate Student Association will host a panel session at the 2014 Scholarly Forum on Wednesday, March 12th at 1pm.

The panel, How to make the best out of your graduate school experience, will be lead by Masters and Doctoral students representing a variety of departments and who are close to graduation.

Join the GSA to discuss:

  • How to make THE MOST of the courses during your program
  • What are the BEST PRACTICES in writing a thesis or dissertation?
  • How to prepare for the JOB SEARCH while still in school

All graduate and professional students are invited and encouraged to attend.

Bring your questions and best practices to share with other graduate during the Q & A questions and learn more about our organization and what it can do for you as a graduate student.

The panel is scheduled for Wednesday March 12th at 1:00 pm in the Badlands Room. The Poster session will follow in the Ballroom at 2pm. Learn more about the 2014 Scholarly Forum on the School of Graduate Studies’ website.

Graduate and Professional Student Gathering on Thursday

leave a comment »

Take a break from the demands of your studies and spend some much needed social time with your fellow graduate and professional students. This group will be hosted by Kyle Thorson, a graduate student, and Kylie Oversen, a law student. The gathering is open to all disciplines and will give you a chance to meet people beyond your own field of study. We hope to meet the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.

Our next gathering will be this Thursday, September 19th @ 5:30pm at University Park, Shelter #2. Christus Rex has graciously agreed to provide food one more time –we will have pulled pork sandwiches, veggies, fruit, cookies, and water. You are, of course, welcome to bring your own food and drink as well.

If you are on Facebook, you can connect with the larger group here: https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/385538778240964/ – The “Events” tab on the top will have updated information for each gathering.

Please join the group and invite your friends to do the same! We had about thirty people show up last time and we are expecting even more this week!

· Note: Because Christus Rex is providing this food, we don’t want it to go to waste if the weather doesn’t cooperate. If it rains, we’ll move the party inside to the Christus Rex lounge. Again, no agenda or religious intentions behind this meeting- open to students of all or no faiths! Just a chance to get to know people from other areas of campus.

You can email Kylie, kylie.oversen@gmail.com or Kyle, kyle.thorson@UND.edu , if you have any questions!

Hope to see you there!

First Grand Forks Science Café to be held Thursday, May 2 at 8 p.m.

The inaugural Grand Forks Science Café will be held at the Wild Hog Smokehouse Bar and Grill at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.  This inaugural science café, titled “How will sequestration affect the sciences?”, will give local scientists an opportunity to gather and discuss the ramifications of sequestration’s impacts on the scientific agencies within our government.

Science Cafés are evening gatherings of local scientists.  Invited moderators present a 15 minute talk on a current issue and then the floor is open for all to discuss the issue.  All science fields are welcome to attend and students at all stages of their education should attend as well.  The Grand Forks Science Café was founded by UND graduate students Nick Cilz and Annie Wargetz.

For more information on the Grand Forks Science Cafés, please visit our blog or email us at GFSciCafe(at)gmail.com.  Follow us on Twitter by following @GFSciCafe and ‘Like’ us on Facebook by searching for “Grand Forks Science Café”.
